Getting Started

5 questions about getting started.

How do I create my first listing?
Click 'Create Your Listing' and follow the guided setup. You'll add your room details, set your preferences, and build a custom questionnaire. You only pay when you're ready to publish.
What information should I include in my listing?
Include the basics: location, rent, move-in date, and room details. Then build your questionnaire with the questions that matter most to you—lifestyle, habits, expectations.
Can I save a draft and finish later?
Yes, your progress is automatically saved. Return anytime to complete your listing before publishing.
Is MyRoomMate a marketplace?
No. We're a screening tool. You create a listing, share your unique link on social media, housing groups, or classifieds, and applicants come to you. We don't host a public directory of listings.
Can I use this for a whole apartment?
Yes. The questionnaire and scoring work the same whether it's one room in a shared flat or the whole apartment.

Questions & Scoring

4 questions about questions & scoring.

How does the compatibility scoring work?
Compatibility scoring is based entirely on the rules you set for that listing. You choose the questionnaire, assign score values to each answer, and can mark answers as disqualifying. MyRoomMate then applies your setup consistently and turns the result into a compatibility percentage.
What is AI scoring and how accurate is it?
We don't use AI to decide the score itself. AI only generates a short summary of each application. Compatibility scores come from the preferences you set for the listing, including answer scores and disqualifying responses.
Can I add my own custom questions?
Yes, on the Plus plan. In addition to the curated question bank, Plus listings can create unlimited custom questions tailored to your needs.
What are disqualifying questions and how do they work?
Disqualifying questions are non-negotiable criteria. If an applicant's answer doesn't match your requirement, they're automatically disqualified before you start reviewing.

How do I review incoming applications?
All applications appear in your dashboard, sorted by compatibility score. Click any applicant to see their full responses, compatibility breakdown, and contact details.
Can I filter or sort applications?
Yes — filter by score range, status, application date, or applicant city and country, and sort by date or score.
How do I manage application statuses?
Applications arrive as Submitted and are Scored automatically. From there you move candidates through statuses like To Review, Favorite, and Offer Sent until someone confirms — or you reject.

Communication

3 questions about communication.

How do I contact applicants?
You can email any applicant directly from your dashboard at any point — open their application and use Send Message. There's no need to accept anyone first.
Can applicants message me first?
By default, no — you initiate contact. If you prefer, enable applicant messaging in your listing's communication settings, which lets an applicant send you one message before you reply.
Will applicants see my personal contact info?
Only if you choose to share it. Your email and phone number are never exposed to applicants automatically.

The Application Process

5 questions about the application process.

How am I scored?
Your score is controlled completely by the listing owner for that specific listing. They choose which questions appear, assign a score value to each possible answer, and can mark some answers as disqualifying. MyRoomMate then calculates your score based on those settings. AI summaries do not affect your score.
What happens after I submit an application?
The listing owner reviews all applications alongside the compatibility scores produced from their own scoring setup. If they're interested, they'll send you an offer or reach out by email.
Can I edit my application after submitting?
No, applications are final once submitted. Make sure to review your answers before hitting submit.
Can I ask for a score breakdown or human review?
Yes. If you have questions about how your score was calculated, want to request a score breakdown, or want a human review of a scoring-related decision, contact support at support@my-roommate.app. We can review how the listing owner configured the scoring, explain the result, and handle human review requests in line with GDPR rights.
How long until I hear back?
Response times vary by listing owner. If you're selected, you'll receive an email notification. Listings close when the owner finds a match, and expire automatically after 120 days at the latest.

Section

Applicant Communication

How do I know if my application was accepted?
You'll receive an email when a listing owner sends you an offer. Offers stay open for 24 hours, so reply promptly.
Can I message listing owners directly?
That depends on the listing. Some owners enable applicant messaging, which lets you send one message before they reply. If it's off, the owner reaches out first — so answer clearly and completely in your application.
What if I have questions about a listing?
Most listing details and expectations are covered in the questionnaire. If you need clarification, note it in your application responses.
